Island Hills Golf Course Development Plan Announcements

If you live anywhere near the former Island Hills Golf Course you should be aware of the plan to build 1300, three to four story apartments. I have filed a Freedom of Information Law request with the Town of Islip and am waiting for a copy of the builder's plans. All new developments of this type must have a percentage of affordable housing, not Section 8. The real problem is the density and the height of the buildings as well as other issues that go with a project of this size. Neighbors,something will be built on this property. What we can do is let the Town of Islip planning Board know our specific concerns, and expectations of them to not let a builder, whose only concern is profit, do whatever they want. If the Town doesn't think we care about our neighborhood then why should they; it's not where their children and grandchildren play. www.islipny.gov. Dept. of Planning 631-224-5450
